Tips for Surviving the School Year

By: Emma Daniels

School is starting back up again, that means waking up way early and staying up really late trying to get homework finished. It’s hard to get back in the groove, so here are some tips to help you survive “this thing called life.” Well not really life but high school, which is technically part of life.

  • Always have everything prepared the night before. Clothes, makeup, deodorant, perfume, backpack, schoolwork, shoes, and basically everything else you need for school. You don’t want to be running around your room for your deodorant after it fell into the great abyss. Have it ready before it falls in there, because once it has, that’s it, game over.
  • Actually do your homework. Don’t wait until the hour before to get everything done, because one it will turn out crumby and two you can’t check your homework over with your best friend if it isn’t done early. Duh.
  • Respect your teachers, administration, and staff, because if you don’t, this article can’t help you. If you can’t respect your elders, there isn’t much hope for you. Sorry not sorry.
  • Stay out of drama. Drama is like the plague, once it starts it takes years to get over it. Also life is too short to holds grudges on people for petty reasons.
  • As much as you should stay out of the drama, definitely don’t start any drama. Starting drama is the worst kind of annoying, because no one likes drama, so if there is a problem just go to the person directly and talk it over a cup of chocolate milk or something.
  • Stay positive. If you ever get your first bad grade or something bad happens, keep your head up, push through, and do better next time. Don’t be sad, get glad.
  • Try your hardest to come to school, but if you’re sick, stay home. You can miss a lot if you miss just one day. Seriously, one day missed can just put you into a bad situation.
  • Make as many friends in every grade as you possibly can. This way you can feel more comfortable when you have to go in front of the whole school, whether it’s for an assembly, to perform, or to be introduced. Also it is just very beneficial to have a lot of friends, friends are cool.
  • Last, but certainly not least, get sleep and keep up. Don’t get so much sleep that you are tired because you slept so much and then you forget to study for a test, but get at least 8 hours. Bags are not always the best accessories, but there is always concealer.
