Scholar Bowl Hosts Meet at RHS

By: Grant Decker

On Wednesday, November 29th, the first Scholar Bowl meet of the season was held here at Richmond High School. Participating schools were Richmond, Lafayette County, Oak Grove, and Grain Valley.

The Varsity team was a little hesitant when it came to getting to the buzzer before the other teams. Varsity lost to Oak Grove and Grain Valley, but won against Higginsville. Varsity Captain Garrett Gifford said that their team, “did well in math; we got the majority of the math questions correct.” He explained that as a team, “We’ve been playing together for four years now, so we are very seasoned.” When asked what the Varsity team could do to improve their outcomes, Gifford said that they could improve on getting to the buzzer faster. “Getting to the buzzer is half the battle.”

The Junior Varsity team came out ahead with a final score of 3-0, defeating all three teams. This was the first Scholar Bowl meet that freshman Luke Morrill has participated in. When asked what he thought about his first Scholar Bowl meet, he said, “It was a great experience and I had a great time.” He also stated that JV did well in science, history, and current events, but they need to improve on their literature and the arts subjects. He also explained that, “JV did very well as a team. We had a lot of different backgrounds that covered all the bases and didn’t leave any blind spots.”

The team is looking forward to their next meet, which will be in January.
