Teacher Spotlight: Josh McCray

By: Rachel Kindley

Coach Josh McCray went to high school at North Kingstown Rhode Island (NKHS). During high school he was involved with Student Council, Interact Club, Boy Scouts, Project Close-Up, and played in the Jazz Band. Coach McCray attended college at Rhode Island College where he received a Bachelors of Science in History and Public Administration, then Providence College where he received his Secondary Education Teaching Certificate. During college he participated in Student Council and the Rhode Island College Anchormen Rugby Team.

Coach McCray has been teaching for 8 years, and has taught six of them here. He’s the assistant football coach and the Key Club sponsor. He teaches Sociology, Government, and AP Government. He has been the teacher for the American History, World History, and AP US History classes.

Reading, playing video games, and watching sports are hobbies Coach McCray has. He’s married to Brandy McCray and they have a daughter, Ella, and a dog, Sterling. Two interesting facts Coach McCray gives is that he “has 206 bones in his body and he’s not that interesting.” His favorite part of teaching at RHS are the students and community involvement.
