Tips on How to NOT be a Jerk

By: Emma Daniels

Everyone can be a jerk sometimes, but some can be a jerk all the time. They will constantly call you names and just be rude people. Here are some tips on how to not be a complete jerk.

  • If you’re texting while walking down the hallway and you run into someone, say “sorry.” Don’t say, “Get the blank out of my way”, because it’s your fault not the person paying attention. It’s a shocker that texting would make you run into someone.
  • When a teacher tells you to do a simple task. Just do it. Don’t argue. Just read a passage of a story, put your phone away, because you’re not supposed to have it out, just put it away, don’t be difficult.
  • If someone has an idea that may be kind of out there, don’t shut it down in a manner that will literally crush that persons dreams. Think on the idea, have a group discussion, ask for other opinions, and then tell them, “You had a great idea, but I just don’t think it will work out.”
  • Don’t talk about people when they are standing right by you. If you want to talk about someone, wait till you are in private or somewhere else, or just don’t talk bad about others, because stupid. The only time you can say it to their face is if they ask you to. Just a suggestion. Some people need to carry around an inhaler for how many breaths they’re wasting talking bad about someone else.
  • Don’t walk on the wrong side of the hall, don’t stop in the middle of it to talk to your friends, don’t make random U-turns, turn on blinker to change sides of the hall, don’t walk with people the whole width of the hallway, and walk at a faster pace, not the pace of a turtle. Thanks.
  • Don’t judge others based on their differences. Weird or not, it’s not okay and it’s definitely not okay to pick on them. Everyone is different, surprised right? Yeah everyone is different. Deal with it.
  • Befriend a jerk, so you look nicer.
