Speech and Debate Conference: A Lovely Event

By: Jordan Barr

On Wednesday, February 14th, eight students boarded a bus at 2:20 in the afternoon for Speech and Debate Conference in Grain Valley. All of the participants did well, however, none received a medal at the end of the night for their hard work. After three rounds of performing for judges, rather than having two rounds and an elite final round, the awards ceremony commenced and the top three contestants were called to the stage.

First time Speech and Debate competitor and Senior Aidan Lacy was proud of how he did, even though he didn’t receive a medal. “It was a good experience, and I was happy with how I did,” he said. “I can see how it may be nice for others, but it wasn’t for me.” Aidan is an active Drama Club member and performs in the school plays, though he does not plan on participating in Speech and Debate again. Speech and Debate Districts will be held Saturday, March 17th. Good luck to those who will be competing!
