State Wrestling

The RHS Wrestling team sent THREE wrestlers down to the State Tournament: Senior, Austin Bowman, and Sophomores, Logan Claypole and Rance Waigand from February 14th to the 17th. All the wrestlers won their first matches on the first day, continuing their journey through the next two days. On Saturday, Austin Bowman finished his career in 5th place. “It wasn’t what I wanted but I’m glad to be a THREE time state placer and beat Dom Nobile’s win record,” he said.

Sophomore, Logan Claypole took home his first state medal in 6th place, “I think I had a good weekend overall, I think I could’ve wrestled a little bit better if I was in better condition,” he said. Logan had to push through the weekend with a broken hand and still found a way to place!

Sophomore, Rance Waigand was the favorite in his weight class, but he took home a manageable 3rd place medal! “My performance wasn’t the best, I was expected to make it to the semifinals, but things don’t always go as planned. I wanted to give up after losing to a guy I’ve beaten every time I wrestled him, then my coaches picked me back up and I kept fighting. I think I had a solid weekend winning 3rd place but I could’ve done better and that’s the thing about wrestling…You’re never 100%,” he said. Congratulations to our wrestlers for each bringing home a prize and proudly representing the Richmond Spartans!
