Scholar Bowl Travels to Independence

By: Grant Decker

On Tuesday, March 13, the Richmond Scholar Bowl team traveled to the Blue River Community College in Independence for the Conference Tournament. Senior Lennon Puls states “we went into Conference thinking that both JV and Varsity had a good chance to make it past the first round and deep into the rest of the tournament.”

Varsity was unable to move on, after taking losses to the top three teams in the conference. “This was the seniors’ last meet of their high school careers, and even though we didn’t do as well as we had hoped, I think that our time on the team has been an overall success,” said Lennon. He also said that through the four years of their scholar bowl careers, the four seniors grew together and became more than just a team: a family.

Junior Varsity was seeded first going into the tournament, so their hopes were very high for the day. They ended the first round with a record of 3-0, but lost in the next round. They placed fourth in the JV division.

When asked what his thoughts were on the future of the team, Senior Lennon Puls answered, “I think that the Varsity team next year will prove to be very successful throughout the season. With the entire Varsity team from this year being seniors, the current JV players will have to step up and lead our team.” He also says that with how well the JV team proved to be this year, the success will likely transfer over to the Varsity level.
